About Me
Dr. K.P. Sudheer is the Ex Officio Principal Secretary, Science & Technology Department, Executive Vice President of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and a Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi in 2000, his M.Tech in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur in 1994, and his B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering from Kerala Agricultural University in 1991.
His research interests include hydrologic modelling, stochastic hydrology, hydrological forecasting, predictions in ungauged basins, uncertainty and sensitivity analysis, irrigation water management, and the application of artificial neural networks (ANN) and fuzzy systems to hydrology and water resources. He is particularly focused on knowledge extraction from, and knowledge embedding in, soft computing-based models, contributing significantly to the advancement of data-driven techniques in water resources engineering.
Dr. Sudheer has held various academic and research positions throughout his career. He has been serving as an Adjunct Professor at Purdue University, USA, since 2015. At IIT Madras, he has held roles as Professor (2013–present), Associate Professor (2009–2013), and Assistant Professor (2003–2009). He was also a Visiting Faculty at IIT Kanpur in 2003 and worked as a Scientist at the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, from 1996 to 2002. Additionally, he served as an International Faculty in the Erasmus Mundus Ecohydrology program at the University of Algarve, Portugal (2011), and as a Visiting Research Scientist at Purdue University, USA (2012).
