Abstract
The Indian Summer Monsoon which contributes to about 70-90% of our mean annual rainfall, has several important aspects which are unique. The most important ones being a) Monsoon Onset b) Active-Break Cycle within the Monsoon cycle and c) Quantum of Monsoon rainfall. In the present study, we look at the role of various Ocean Atmospheric parameters and fluxes on the above three aspects. Further, the role of El Nino, La Nina, and Indian Ocean Dipole, and their influence/Impact on the Summer Monsoon is analysed. Also, the concurrent El Nino and the different flavors of IOD is also studied. Further, the role of Indian Ocean is also studied in relation with respect to the Active-Break cycles
